Chronology of cameras Houghton
This camera was produced from around 1913 for more 10 years. It has a very particular folding construction and derives from the Ensign Folding Reflex Model D, except that it has no reflex system. It was delivered in two plate formats: quarter plate (3 1/4 x 4 1/4") and 9 x 12 cm - this specimen has a quarter plate format.
The body is covered in black leather, and the leather bellows are unpleated. It has a large wire frame viewfinder for rapid and easy framing. The shutter is a focal plane delivering speeds in the range 1/15 to 1/1000 seconds plus B and T. Early catalogues refer a minimum speed of 1/10, as in the first model of the Houghton Folding Reflex. The lens is a Ross Xpres of 136 mm of focal length and maximum aperture of 4.5, mounted in a lensboard with cross front movement.
